It seems that someone has a spambot that is targeting SMF Forums such as ours. For the next few days, until I get time to do some heavy updating, the registration form will ask three simple questions that will help determine whether the registration is from a human or spambot

Aww - no more escort service posts?  Darn!   lol devil lol

I thought it tied right in with yesterday's press about the Porn Industry asking for a bailout.

I believe it's a joke but the reactions/comments under the article are a hoot!  (Make sure you switch the order to oldest first)   lol

It did make the forum interesting yesterday  Grin Grin

I was wondering if there was anyway spambot could affect persnonal websites.... and how you would find out if it did.  I would sure hate anyone adding crap to my website.

Any answers Dennis or SC?

unless someone is able to hack your password to your personal website and change the info by hand...no....spambots are designed register at forums and blogs only.
The do travel thru your website looking for email addresses to spam you and will fill out forms automatically to spam you, but that is about it.

Hmm - well since I've basically only used that email address to log on to this forum I should be safe.   lol  Not sure if it's still an active email address - guess I should log in every now and then - just need to try to remember my password.  UGH!

Newf Net got nailed hard the other day.  Some sort of server attack, from a single IP address.  Apparently the person who owned that IP addy got hit with a virus?  Not sure...but it wasn't pretty.  NN was down for a day.
